This is the 116th renewal of one of the oldest and certainly the largest state shoot in the country. Forty-eight trap fields plus four practice fields will be in use for this prestigous event.

The
first year the Pennsylvania Grand was over the Labor Day weekend of
1973. (Sept. 1, 2 , 3, 1973). Three automobiles were awarded in the
Handicap Championship and 40 traps were used for the event. The
program and location was similar in 1974 (Aug. 31, Sept. 1, 2, 1974),
but that changed to the awarding of guns in 1975. From 1975 to present,
the tournament has been held on the PSSA grounds at the Orville Eberly
building. The tournament was held over 44 traps in 1975 and was cut
short that same year because of a heavy all day rain forcing the
cancellation of the Singles Championship. Since then the PSSA has
awarded money, trophies, etc. until the current day. The tournament was
changed to the 4th of July week in 1976. It has been held on those same
dates since then.
ATA Grand American
August 6th - 16th, 2008
Sparta, Illinois
2006 was the first year for The ATA Grand American competition to be held in Sparta, Illinois near St. Louis after formerly being held in Vandalia, Ohio near Dayton due to the expansion of the airport.
The trapshooting competition is a 10-day event expected to draw 150,000 people. It will be held within the newly built multipurpose World Shooting & Recreational Complex. Located on 1500+ acres including 250 acres of water, the site features 100 trap fields extending 3.5 miles, a permanent exhibitor building, 600 RV campsites with electric and water, a chapionship 3-D archery course and much, much more!
